Apple's First Touchscreen Mac is Now Arriving to Customers

It's Friday, November 6 in Australia and New Zealand, which means customers who preordered a PROLED touchscreen MacBook Pro, OLED iPad mini, M6 ‌MacBook Pro‌, or M6 iMac are now starting to receive their devices.

Apples First Touchscreen Mac is Now Arriving to Customers Feature
People will soon be sharing photos and first impressions of the new products on the MacRumors forums, Reddit, Instagram, and other platforms, giving us a first look at what real-world users think of the ‌OLED‌ upgrade for the ‌iPad mini‌ and the PROLED and touchscreen update for the ‌MacBook Pro‌.

Apple's new high-end ‌MacBook Pro‌ models come with M5 Pro or M5 Max, and the major change is the display. It's touch-enabled and is the first Mac with an ‌OLED‌ display. The design has been updated, so the new machines are thinner and lighter than the mini-LED models, which Apple is still selling. Apple also brought back the glowing Apple logo, and replaced the notch with a Dynamic Island. Pricing on the PROLED ‌MacBook Pro‌ starts at $2,899 for the 14-inch model and $3,399 for the 16-inch model.

The ‌OLED‌ ‌iPad mini‌ is Apple's first smaller-screened iPad to get ‌OLED‌, and it's also the most affordable ‌OLED‌ ‌iPad‌. It's almost a millimeter thinner than the prior version and has an Acoustic Display that does away with speaker holes. Without them, the enclosure is sealed, making it the first ‌iPad‌ with a water and dust resistance rating (IP67). It uses Apple's A20 Pro chip. The ‌OLED‌ ‌iPad mini‌ starts at $699.

The 14-inch entry-level ‌MacBook Pro‌ and 24-inch ‌iMac‌ got little in the way of updates beyond an M6 chip. The ‌MacBook Pro‌ is priced starting at $1,999, and the ‌iMac‌ starts at $1,499.

Australia is the first country where customers can buy one of the new products in an Apple retail location. Online orders of the PROLED ‌MacBook Pro‌ don't ship until late November or early December, so it's possible in-store stock will be limited. The ‌OLED‌ ‌iPad mini‌, 14-inch ‌MacBook Pro‌, and ‌iMac‌ should be readily available.

After Australia and New Zealand, sales and deliveries of the new Macs and ‌iPad mini‌ will begin in Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and finally, North America.

Apple today sent out invites for an experience in Los Angeles on Wednesday, October 28, and the "Pro and tell" tagline on the invitation likely means that the rumored MacBook models with touch-enabled OLED displays will stick with MacBook Pro branding instead of the once-rumored "MacBook Ultra" name. The long-rumored "iPhone Ultra" ended up being named iPhone Duo, so speculation that Apple...

It's frustrating that all these reviews gushing over how undoubtedly great the new MacBook Pro is, all fail to acknowledge the price point. Given that effectively in the last year and a half, this new model has become £1000 more expensive, in 2 generations, means it should be getting like a 6/10 review. As a laptop designed primarily to get work done, it offers rather poor value. Doesn't matter that it's an exceptional piece of hardware, it feels like a modern day Lisa...
Not sure how this is frustrating, plenty of tech reviews are terrible and don’t know how to do any proper analysis. But also, prices for brand new laptops have gone up industry wide it’s not just an Apple thing.

But the best review I saw was the one that compared a laptop that advertises a Tandem OLED display, was a very similar price, and most importantly the other laptop had a screen that performed worse in their testing. So basically if you are need the best color accurate display in a laptop for your work, this is the best one.

Which means, your statement is factually incorrect. As a laptop designed primary to get work done, it actually is the best, if that work happens to require a display with this level of accuracy of color and black levels (in a laptop you can carry in a bag). Huh kinda sounds like something a Professional might need in a MacBook Pro.

Nobody else has to buy this laptop if that is not something they need.

In fact people shouldn’t buy any laptop they don’t need, nobody is holding a gun to their head to make them buy anything. Nobody should buy anything because some reviewer told you so, but be my guest if you need reviews to align to your viewpoint to validate your purchase.

The problem is that RAM prices has gone up 500% in the past year. SSD is on a similar trajectory. Apple was holding prices to some extent over the last year or so, but with a new model they have to price it to reflect their current costs. They issues their financial reports today and their margins are lower than they were last quarter. The prices hit them and they have to pass on the costs.

Anybody that has had a touchscreen PC laptop usually stops touching the screen after the novelty wears off. This touchscreen nonsense is just another touchbar fiasco being born.
The issue with the touch bar was that it replaced a perfectly usable row of keys. Further, you couldn't turn it off—it was there regardless. The touch interface can be turned off and doesn't replace anything; it's simply additive. Add that to the fact that most users under 25 expect a screen to respond to touch and, no, this isn't going away. Just turn it off and don't use it.

I guess you haven't noticed the RAM holocaust and the staggering increase in price of almost every technical product that uses RAM. You can pay far more for a far worse high-end laptop from Dell or Lenovo. If you don't care about the screen and performance and all the other things that go to make up a high-end laptop, don't buy it.

I would have been more excited if they had an EyeSafe ('https://eyesafe.com/')display Mac.

I have had TouchScreen laptops from work for around 10 years now and I always disable the feature because I find it to be a nuisance.
